We’ve compiled our list of 6 Essential Sunroom Décor Pieces for you. Sunrooms can serve many different functions depending on what your home lacks or what your family’s lifestyle is. I’ve seen sunrooms be used as home offices, craft rooms, bar and entertaining rooms, private spa areas, family rooms, and even extra bedrooms. But my favorite way to furnish and use a sunroom is as a separate relaxation area.

If you already have space in your home to check all of those other boxes off, think about turning this new space into your go-to room for lounging and shaking off the dust of your hard days. Just make sure you have these six essential décor pieces scattering the room to multiply the relaxation factor in your space.

6 Essential Sunroom Décor Pieces

A Hanging Chair or Daybed Sunroom Décor

A wicker swing chair is hanging in the corner of a sunroom. There are pillows and blankets placed inside it. It is essential sunroom decor.

Hanging chairs and/or daybeds have a unique appeal that makes you feel like a kid again every time you sit on it. It makes the room special and magical and almost beckons you to sit it in, which is helpful in a room that’s there to help you relax. With the daily hustle and bustle of life, having a special hanging chair that begs you to take time to sit and relax may just be the push you need to actually take the time for self-care and recuperate.

Tall Trees or Hanging Plants for Sunroom Décor

Plants are essential sunroom decor. In this photo, the interior of the sunroom is decorated with a sofa, coffee table, side chair and a tall planter tree sits next to the sofa.

Plants are essential for creating a relaxing space because they actually help to clean the air and purify it. So by filling your sunroom with plants, you’re actually creating a space that’s filtered of the stuffiness found in the rest of your home. Not only that, but plants help to create a softer feel to a room, bringing in a lightness and an organic feel that can be easily lost in an aluminum structure.

In my personal opinion, do what you can to hang some plants from the roof, or add in a tall tree or two to take up some vertical space in the room. With basically all of your walls functioning as windows and no place to hang artwork or photos, it’s hard to fill up vertical space in a sunroom, but with a hanging plant or a tall tree you can start to fill in some of that overhead space and bring the outdoors in.

Twinkle Lights Sunroom Décor

The nostalgia of twinkle lights are going to help get you in the mood for relaxing more than anything. I don’t know about you, but twinkle lights give me a fuzzy, warm feeling that makes me want to curl up and relax. Plus, it gives you a way to introduce softer lighting throughout the room, instead of a harsh overhead light or a single bright lamp.

Piles of Plush pillows & Cozy Blankets

This one is probably a given, but the addition of tons of pillows and a basket of blankets is necessary for curling up and lounging. If you want to splurge a bit, purchase down-alternative pillows and fur or flannel blankets. You’ll love the squish factor and the instant coziness they give you.

Books, Crafts, Board Games as Sunroom Décor

What relaxes you? If you were home alone and needed to unwind, what would you grab? Once you think of an activity, make sure you put that in your sunroom. Personally, I’m a crocheter, so I would keep an ongoing project in a small basket next to my favorite seat to easily grab when I get some me-time. Even if you’re an extrovert, it’s important to get some alone time every now and then, so use it as a way to discipline yourself into getting that personal time that you need.

It’s also worth mentioning to try and avoid using technology as your go-to method for relaxing. Even if you’re surfing social media, it can quickly turn into a session of self-comparison which can be the opposite of relaxation in some cases. As a general rule, try to stay away from TV, tablets, computers, etc and try to find a hobby that allows you to unwind and relax.

Decorative Candles for Your Sunroom

I love a good eucalyptus candle to help relax me and get my mind off the hectic qualities of everyday life. Whatever your favorite candle company is, do some research and see if they have a eucalyptus candle. Even if it’s not specifically eucalyptus, most companies will have some kind of relaxing scent that you can purchase. And just to add to the appeal of candles, have a box of matches available dressed in some pretty wrapping paper next to your candle at all times. That way, you don’t have to search the house for a lighter, and the smell of the burning wood will help to relax you as well.

Well, there you have it. These 6 essential sunroom decor pieces necessary to help make your sunroom in to your go-to place for relaxation and recuperation. Let me know what your go-to decor pieces are in the comments below, in case I missed something!
